The space cargo ship Progress does not crash to Earth – Clubic

The space freighter Progress, which missed its orbit last week did not crash to Earth. It disintegrated night over the Pacific Ocean.

“The Progress M-27M spacecraft ceased to exist on May 8 at 5 am 04 hours in Moscow. “ (By 6 pm 04 hours in Paris.) This is what the Russian space agency Roscosmos announced this morning in a statement. The craft entered the atmosphere as planned tonight, above the central part of the Pacific Ocean, and disintegrated in 10 minutes as a result of the heat caused by its input at very high speed.

No debris has therefore reached the surface of the Earth, although the space agency does not explicitly mention it.

On 28 April, the Soyuz rocket had dropped the ship too soon, 30 km from the planned point of separation. A small distance across space, but sufficient for Progress is not launched at the speed necessary to maintain its orbit. Too slow, he did not fall straight down, but he turned around the Earth gradually losing altitude for 10 days, to penetrate through the atmosphere.

L Russian space agency will submit before May 13 the results of its investigation.
