The manufacturing cost of Apple Watch Sport is 24% of the MSRP says the consulting firm IHS. This rate is the lowest ever recorded on an Apple device. Until then, this had always been measured between 29% and 38% of the sale price.
IHS, which dissected the Apple Watch Sport 38 mm model, says the cost of the equipment is 81 , $ 20 watch. The estimated cost of labor is 2.5 dollars per show, which increases the cost of production to 83.70 dollars . The selling price of this model is 349 dollars.
As usual, this analysis does not include the cost of logistics, research and development , software, marketing, or paid by Apple to license.
IHS said that new features and new manufacturing processes are present in the Apple Watch. We find it among other pulse oximetry (blood saturation in oxygen) and a tactile force sensor (supplied by TPK) that integrates with an OLED display from LG.
For memory, Apple uses flash memory 8GB Toshiba and Micron SDRAM 512MB. Connectivity and interface side are Broadcom equipment, STMicro, Maxim, Analog Devices and NXP. Note that the accelerometer / gyroscope is no longer provided by Invensense but by STMicro. In the great tradition Apple, the hull of the machine has a machining ‘unibody’, made in a single block of aluminum.
Finally, IHS notes that the watch battery seems simpler to replace than other Apple portable devices. It is accessible below the display panel, and disconnects with a simple touch.
marketing side, we learned last week that only 22% of pre-orders Apple Watch made before the official date launch had been delivered.
