Orange launched the new Livebox May 19 – ZDNet France

Article updated May 12 at 16h – Faced with the offensive of competition: SFR with Zive, Bouygues Telecom with Miami and the next box Free which is preparing, Orange intends to regain control on the fixed market with its new Livebox. Available from 19th May, this new box first hears differentiate technologically.

“This box we are proud of. It responds to the changing needs of our clients who demand unparalleled access and waiting for an Internet experience in the home and incomparable on all screens. This New Livebox fiber nourishes our development strategy in France, “says Fabienne Dulac, Executive Director, Orange France.

Obviously compatibility 100% fiber (including the ONT housing that was previously outside the box) based on GPON. Orange also indicates that this new model will help to achieve the goal of 1.6 million customers fiber by the end of 2016.

The new Livebox offers boosted Wi-Fi using 2.4 5 Ghz in aggregation (including allowing connect 10 terminals), a dual-core processor three times more powerful than the previous generation engines powering, hard disk 1TB (optional unfortunately), the integration of Dolby Atmos and obviously the ultra-HD content support or 4K.

Orange relies heavily on the adoption of 4K by consumers yet will involve revitalizing televisions. But the European Football Cup could be the trigger.

The contents and management of these have also been treated. “These new quality standards will be tested through a catalog of content including live, sports, and more than 300 titles on demand in Ultra HD from the marketing of New Livebox” said Orange. Because the idea is to monetize the optical fiber and absorb the colossal related investments. As with SFR Zive, so it is to rely on a premium catalog, 4K, to boost the ARPU fiber, higher than the ADSL customer …

The incumbent ad concretely 8 matches of the European Football cup in Ultra HD exclusively, films and series UHD on OCS GO and OCS Max, Canal + with programs in UHD (games Top 14 rugby and League 1 football, movies and series), Netflix, with hundreds of hours of series, films and documentaries UHD and very oriented VOD UHD with nearly forty recent film, “be the richest catalog launch UHD” . SFR will enjoy.

The application My Orange TV acquires a voice assistant with a facial recognition service startup Reminiz (to access on their smartphone / tablet to detailed information on the players while watching a movie in real time) and a voice recognition service based on Nuance techno. Basically, you can control the application by voice to look for content, refine its application, launch a movie … It will just be sure that Orange does not listen to the conversations of its clients before the TV, such as TV connected to Samsung …

the Orange TV also enriches the social sharing feature to share almost instantly extracts of live content on social networks such as SFR / Numericable.

Interesting point, this new Livebox, Orange Comfort is accompanied by the airbox housing which connects with the mobile network on the go (and pick some data from its Livebox universe) and access the Internet while waiting for the connection to the fiber or ADSL operational.

in short, Orange puts the odds on his side to participate in the new war fixed. Still, the rate of this box are as usual with Orange a little higher than the competition with two offers. It is available from € 39.99 per month (Play) and € 47.99 Jet which includes the hard disk of 1TB and airbox. These offers can be combined with mobile packages 4G

For the first offer, Orange offers a range of options. Storage (5 euros per month with a 10 euro commissioning costs) or airbox ( 5 euros per month with 10 euros commissioning costs).

as usual, it will cost 3 euros extra per month for the rental of the box 50 euros and commissioning costs TV decoder for …. that’s a lot of startup costs … Orange therefore applied an increase of 2 to 5 euros per month for this new premium offering but the trend is not to increase prices fixed?
