Tablets and smartphones disturb sleep children – Why doctor?

As tablets and smartphones become very widespread objects, a study published in the journal Pediatrics shows that these devices have a detrimental impact on sleep, especially in children.

To achieve these results, the researchers analyzed 2,048 college students: those with electronic devices in their bedroom at night slept an average of 21 minutes less than their peers who do not have . Why such a difference in sleep time? According to the researchers, these devices, which can be used in bed outside parental supervision, emit notifications throughout the night, which can wake the children.

“These results should serve as a warning against unlimited access to screens in children’s rooms,” say the authors of the study led by Jennifer Falbe of the Institute of Public Health at the University of California

The TV is also singled out in Pediatrics . children have a TV in their bedroom sleeping 18 minutes less on average than those who do ‘not.

A study published in the journal of the American Academy of Sciences, PNAS , had already highlighted the impact of reading lights on sleep people . It was so light aircraft that was singled out: “A light shortwave blue light more concentrated – with a peak at 450 nanometers – that natural light,” were responsible for about 10 minutes late sleep onset time of people who consulted a reading light before going to bed, according to Anne-Marie Chang, co-author of the study. A restriction of access to screens before going to bed so also seems necessary.
