Space: the French-US satellite Jason 3 in orbit – The Obs

Washington (AFP) – The US company SpaceX said he failed Sunday to ask smoothly the first stage of its Falcon 9 rocket on a floating barge in the Pacific after the launch of the French-US satellite Jason 3

“The first floor is come on the barge but it seems that the landing was brutal,” SpaceX wrote in a tweet.

This was the fourth attempt to ask smoothly the first stage of the rocket on an offshore platform.

This landing attempt could not be broadcast live, the barge being too far from the coast, explained SpaceX.

On 22 December, the company of billionaire Elon Musk, had succeeded for the first time to land the first floor of Falcon 9 on the ground near Cape Canaveral (Florida) eleven minutes after launch.

Hans Koenigsmann, the head of the firing SpaceX, said Friday that the company did not have this time been trying a new landing on land because it could not obtain permission from authorities.

The first floor had split Sunday on the second floor, which carries the satellite Jason 3, as expected 37 2 minutes after takeoff. He later shifted to return the atmosphere to begin its descent to the Pacific, rekindling its engines several times in retro rocket to slow its speed and gently come to rest upright on the barge and ten minutes after launch.

SpaceX believes that the recovery of the first stage of the launcher will significantly reduce launch costs and disrupt the market of the orbiting satellites.

Sunday’s launch marks the second flight of SpaceX rocket since the explosion of the launcher in June after taking off from Cape Canaveral.
