TRANSPORT The CEAR, the most dangerous road in France? – Le Dauphiné Libéré

CEAR, these four letters for Route Centre Europe Atlantique, trembles number of motorists and truck drivers they regularly use. This route crosses France from east to west from Beaune through Burgundy and northern Auvergne. Then she plunged back into the Allier or further west in the Creuse to the A89 motorway south towards Bordeaux.

10 000 vehicles per day

Over 10 000 vehicles cross it every day, half trucks, often without respecting the safety distances. The road is monotonous with long straights and sometimes poor visibility when overtaking. Following excess mortality in the years 2010-2011, several sections have been redesigned to reduce portions in two ways. Radars were installed. But since the completion in 2×2 of the westernmost portion (between Montlucon and the Creuse), the eastern part, divided into two sections (one to Chalon-sur-Saône, Mâcon to the other coming from the west) and covering the RN 79 in Saône-et-Loire and Allier remains the stretch considered the most dangerous in France.

a dangerous overtaking or loss of vigilance?

After many aternoiements a plan provides for the grant of the RN 79 on the Allier and sécurtsation part of the RN 70 and 79 in Saône-et-Loire on public funds. Their last 2 × 2 channels will be gradual and take place in three phases with a target for development of 70% of the linear plot before end 2025.

It is on this stretch that took place the accident between a truck and a minibus. The collision killed 12 passengers of the minibus. According to the Secretary General of the Prefecture of Allier, Delavoet David, “two hypotheses are preferred for the moment, a dangerous overtaking, a loss of vigilance.”
