for the second time, the US aerospace firm SpaceX successfully land the first floor of its Falcon 9 launch vehicle parked on a barge at sea.

New achievement for the American aerospace company SpaceX. Yesterday, the company founded by the engineer – billionaire Elon Musk is again managed to land on a platform anchored at sea on the first floor of a rocket Falcon 9. A technological feat that should enable it eventually to reuse these very launchers expensive.

Thirty-two minutes after taking off from Cape Canaveral early yesterday morning, the Falcon 9 rocket is separated from the Japanese communications satellite SKY perfect JSAT, which is placed in Earth orbit. The top 70 meters launcher then turned back to land impeccably on a barge in the Atlantic Ocean off Florida. A landing greeted with chants of “USA, USA, USA,” chanted members of the management team on the ground. The jubilation reflected some relief.

A perilous exercise

It should be said that California-based SpaceX particularly dreaded exercise because the pitcher was back in the atmosphere at a speed of about 2 km / second. Speed making it difficult to brake its descent but was necessary to place the satellite in orbit. This setting has caused a much stronger warming than during the previous test. Engineers were one source of concern for the success of the project whose chances of success were estimated at 50%.

This is the third successful landing of its kind for SpaceX. So after several failures (including explosions in flight), the first stage of Falcon 9 had once placed on the ground in Florida in December 2015. Then the engineers had taken an extra difficulty level by making it land on a barge into the Atlantic on 8 April after the launch of its unmanned cargo capsule Dragon to the international Space Station.

with this success, Elon Musk and his team have just proven that their expendable launch vehicle system can compete directly Ariane 5. the advantage of this technology is the possible reuse of parts of rockets that were previously lost in the ocean after launch. Success of SpaceX synonymous with future significant savings for the aerospace sector.

Success also for Solar Impulse 2

Along with SpaceX, another technological feat was achieved in the United States earlier this week. The solar airplane Solar Impulse 2 (SI2) has thus laid Tuesday in Phoenix, Arizona, completing the 10th stage of its journey around the world. Journey started in March 2015 in Abu Dhabi and is expected to continue in New York, before crossing the Atlantic. A real achievement for revolutionary experimental aircraft powered by battery recharging with over 17,000 photovoltaic cells on its wings that capture solar energy.
