Play Portal in augmented reality is now possible – The Digital

Portal, mythical game created by Valve ten years ago, is exploring the possibilities of the Hololens from Microsoft. The teleport in your room, it is for now, or almost.
Portal is now playable with the helmet augmented reality Hololens from Microsoft. Game of reflection and action developed by Valve — the creator of Half-Life — and released in 2007, it puts in scene a character, Shell, who must travel through portals in space, a succession of rooms in the laboratories of Aperture Science. Recommended by the ambiguous artificial intelligence GLaDOS, Shell find out that its mission is, in reality, not in a simple series of scientific tests.

Thanks to the potential of the helmet augmented reality Hololens from Microsoft, the developer KennyW was able to recreate a part of the principles of Portal… in the real world. Once the helmet over the eyes, and the Portal Gun between the hands, it becomes possible to generate these doors blue or orange in your environment — kitchen, lounge, stairs… virtual cubes game original may be used and react to this environment : they may, for example, down stairs, or reach the androids military thanks to instant transmission. It is of course impossible (for now ?) to cross the portals, thus making real progress in the plot of Portal. The experience, created with the Unity engine, is therefore above all a demonstration of the potential of the Hololens, and has a priori not intended to be marketed.
