The American probe Maven successfully enters Mars orbit – Le Nouvel Observateur

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The American spacecraft Maven, first probe to unravel the mysteries of the disappearance of much of the Martian atmosphere in a distant past, has managed its insertion into orbit of the Red Planet in the night from Sunday to Monday, said NASA.

“After ten months of traveling and have traveled 711 million kilometers, Maven (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) arrived in Mars orbit late Sunday, “says NASA on its website.

Applause rang out in the control room of the mission at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California when the insertion of the probe was confirmed, according to images from NASA broadcast live.

NASA had not yet confirmed the time of this insertion was planned around 1:50 GMT Monday after the engine ignition sensor for about thirty minutes to slow its speed.
