DHL also offers delivery drone, medicine – Clubic

The subsidiary of the German postal delivery inaugurated by drone. Confined to deliver medicine to a remote island 12 miles from land, the craft is unlikely to be extended to other uses.

Coming from a research project started in December 2013, this UAV is a first for the European logistics industry. To reach the remote island of 12 km, the Parcelcopter fly at an altitude of 50 meters and a speed of 18 meters per second, or about 65 km / h. Intended for emergency drugs and products, and to cover deficiencies ferry, the UAV will operate between two fixed bases scheduled for landing and takeoff. A courier will then take to route the order to the recipient.

By the admission of DHL, this project mainly serves as pilot for evaluating the constraints and benefits of UAV logistics use.
