The scientist in charge of the agency, V. Koteswara Rao, said the probe, dubbed Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) had sent a dozen photos from its orbit Wednesday and it worked fine. “The color camera on board began work shortly after stabilization in the elliptical orbit of Mars and took a dozen pictures of its surface and surrounding areas,” Rao told AFP.

India became the first Asian country to reach Mars on Wednesday with MOM its probe, also called Mangalyaan, into orbit after a voyage of 10 months.
