Although cloud storage is increasingly promoted by manufacturers and mobile operating systems, the storage capacity of a smartphone remains one of the major selection criteria for the consumer.
to achieve offer 256GB of capacity in the confined space imposed by the smartphone, Samsung uses its V-NAND technology, enabling design “3D” of the memory chip, as opposed to traditional chip say planar.
Samsung is however not yet fully satisfied with the profitability of this production, as demonstrated besides the return of traditional NAND in its latest SSD.
that’s why this chip 256GB should be, at least in its early days, used only in high-end smartphones
