China launches satellite ‘quantum’ ‘a world first – Le Figaro

China today made the first global launch of a satellite quantum communication, announced a state media, a technological breakthrough for Beijing, which aims in this way to build a tamper-proof system of encrypted communications.

the launch was conducted in the Gobi desert (north), announced the official Xinhua news agency, and comes at a time when the US, Japan and other nations also want to win in this burgeoning technology. The satellite, named Mozi in honor of a Chinese philosopher of the 5th century BC, will be used to demonstrate the advantages of quantum technology in long-distance communications.

China has invested enormous financial resources in this technological marathon, one of the many Beijing investment in advanced scientific research, the asteroid mining to genetic manipulation.

Unlike methods conventional secure transmission, the system uses photons (a “fundamental particle” of the electromagnetic field) to send the necessary encryption keys to decode the information. The data contained in these photons are impossible to intercept: any attempt to cause their destruction espionage, China says new
