The video platform could include other types of content, such as photos, links and statuses. YouTube and evolve into a social network in itself.

YouTube wants to be more than just a video platform. Its owner Google would work on Backstage, a project that aims to transform the social network, as indicated by the site VentureBeat. YouTube, which boasts one billion users worldwide, wants to expand the types of content available on its website, allowing among others the publication of photos, articles or surveys.

If Google n has not confirmed the existence of this project, Backstage could launch this fall on PC and mobile, according to VentureBeat. The service would be available initially to the most influential users on YouTube. The platform hopes in this way furthering the interaction between content creators and their subscribers. Like most social networks, publications would display in a news feed in a reverse chronological order. Subscribers receive notifications for each new release.

Backstage YouTube could help to counter the influence of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, that online use more stars to interact with their fans. These social networks all show ambition in the video: Live with Facebook, its streaming tool; Periscope with Twitter and Vine; Snapchat and Instagram with a photo and short videos. Nevertheless, “YouTube is not expected to give its users services like Facebook,” as VentureBeat notes. “YouTube is above all retain viewers longer on its platform.”

This project could allow Google to get a place among the social networks, a field where the Web giant has suffered many failures . In 2011, the company launched Google+ to compete in the optical Facebook. Despite its 300 million active users, he never achieved the popularity of other social networks. Various features of Google+ have since joined other Web giant’s products, as Google Hangout or Photos.
