Google has released an update of its Chromecast applications for Android and iOS to enable a new Feature: Backdrop. Its role? Allow you to customize the wallpaper of your TV when no stream is read with photos or content of its partners.
Currently, when key Chromecast is connected to your TV and you are nothing broadcast a series of pictures is displayed. This is made from a selection of selected teams Google+, you can also find on this site photographers. But you do not have the ability to do otherwise. It is now the case via the new Backdrop tab that has just appeared in the new version of Chromecast for Android and iOS.
With Backdrop, application Chromecast becomes more curious, but more complete
After launching the application, you must accept the conditions of use of this new service that will want to access information from your HDMI key, but also to your Google+ account. Once done, Backdrop will show the currently displayed image on the screen and its information, such as the profile of its author.
In the settings, you will have the option to enable or disable certain items, the effect is almost immediate:
- Pictures of your account Google+ albums you selected
- Weather according to the location information returned by your Chromecast
- Photos art (Google Open Gallery and / or the Google Cultural Institute)
- Pictures of space and earth
- Photos from Google +
So you can choose between different sources of pictures according to your preferences and add your own. What transform your TV into a true giant digital picture frame. Weather information, they, appear superimposed in the lower right corner.
Press photos: only in the United States
Note across the Atlantic, Google also proposes to enable photos from its partners in the media like the New York Times, the Guardian or Saveur, via the elements associated with publications or current events. It is not clear when that will happen here.
Anyway activation is quite simple and rather nice feature because it adds a layer of control to Chromecast it was currently impossible to customize simply, unless you go through additional applications.
