Fairphone, a second “fair” smartphone – ZDNet France

The “fair” smartphone seems to appeal (especially in France). The Dutch Fairphone announced in effect the launch of a second terminal, simply called Fairphone 2 elapsed after 60,000 copies of the first model.

“Their commitment has enabled Fairphone to start having a positive impact throughout the value chain of consumer electronics, namely mining, designing, manufacturing and cycle life. The first step of the company was to prove that it is possible to combine social values and profitability to improve business practices. With these first sales and ongoing support of the community, Fairphone is now about to increase its impact and influence with the creation of its own original design, “says the group.

The principle remains the same: the terminal is manufactured in a factory in China to proper wages and metals from areas outside the conflict, and improving its electronic waste recycling program began in Ghana.

The unit can also be removed to allow its owner
to repair itself the most part subject to breakage, especially
screen, camera, speaker and the receiver, in order to push its obsolescence.
“This new design approach allows Fairphone to enjoy a better view of its supply chain and increase its transparency and positive social impact. This includes a better use, control and traceability of reinforced materials, the ability to select and build stronger relationships with individual suppliers (secondary) and the opportunity to increase its influence on the processes of production, “it said in a statement.
Beyond its ethical production, Fairphone 2 is positioned in the high-end, it is with a 5-inch Full HD screen, the Snapdragon platform from Qualcomm 801 and dual SIM functionality. It is impact resistant with a reinforced hull.

In addition, Fairphone plans to collaborate with developers to offer users a choice and greater control over the operating system.
Preorders begin this summer; the first phone shipments are expected this fall. The smartphone will be sold 525 euros.
