After the announcement yesterday that Cyanogen Inc was going to close its services as of December 31, 2016, the project CyanogenMod officially announces that it closes also its doors, to be reborn in the better under another name.
It was thought that the open-source project CyanogenMod surivrait to the death of Cyanogen OS, and the departure of Steve Kondik, but there will eventually be nothing. In an announcement on the official blog of the project, the team CyanogenMod announced that the latest decisions of Cyanogen Inc have marked the death sentence of the famous ROM alternative for Android.
With the departure of Kondik, and of the end of support of Cyanogen OS by Cyanogen Inc., the community, CyanogenMod will no longer have a say in the future of the project. In addition, the common infrastructure between CM and Cyanogen Inc, which allowed, among other things, the online version of nightly for dozens of devices, is also abandoned. Finally, the mark 'Cyanogen' belongs to the company, and the team doesn’t want to take the risk that this brand is acquired by a third party, who could then potentially take possession of CyanogenMod, or endanger the project.
