Apple is poised to dominate the online music through Apple Music. Its streaming service launched in June already would total 10 million paying subscribers, according to the Financial Times. Progress is rapid, since in October Tim Cooks had already revealed 6.5 million subscribers.
30 million titles
Launched at the end of June, Apple Music provides access to a catalog of over 30 million shares against a monthly fee of 9.99 euros or family offer (up to six accounts) to 14.99 euros.
However, unlike Spotify and Deezer its conuurents, Apple does not offer free listening financed by advertising with the exception of the three-month trial period.
The rise of streaming
Apple owes its success to its rich catalog but also to the global success of the iPhone where Apple Music is installed automatically. But also, according to Capital, to the rise of streaming.
Indeed, in 2014, the securities downloads fell 12% while the streaming risen by 50% (164 billion listened songs 2014), according to Nielsen Music. In 2015, the turnover generated by the streaming has exceeded one billion dollars at the end of seven months, an increase of 23% year on year, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
This meteoric rise of Apple Music can therefore give cold sweats to Spotify totaling 15 million subscribers and Deezer especially the Apple brand has just passed.
