Windows 10: Can save the PC? – ZDNet France

The output from newer versions of Windows have had in the past a positive effect on PC sales. With Windows 10, Microsoft and can they build on its hardware partners a similar phenomenon?

The first effects of this nature generally tend to be generated by sales to individuals, businesses showing they are more conservative and therefore different changes in their parks.

Effect zero in 2015 to the company

These should therefore not rush on Windows 10, especially as many of they have recently completed their migrations to Windows 7 during the stop support for Windows XP.

From personal side other factors come into play. First, Microsoft will offer the first year these users to migrate from Windows 10 to free their devices with Windows 7 and Windows 8.x (as well as Windows Phone 8.1).

The free the OS is likely to encourage consumers to adopt Windows 10. However at the same time, this argument should also get them to keep longer their existing machines.

IDC believes not to a Windows 10 effect on PC sales. “We do not expect a significant impact this year of Windows 10 on PC sales. For the consumer market, Microsoft plans to make the free update for end users, therefore we believe that many of they shall come up version on their existing machines without acquiring new “comments Maciek Gornicki, IDC research manager for EMEA.

” From the perspective of business market, we do not expect any impact of the launch of Windows 10 on PC renewals this year, “he adds. And if computer sales in Europe should not react to the release of Windows 10, it is particularly also because of currency fluctuations.

Gartner already estimated that manufacturers should pass on the dollar’s decline on the price of their products. A key, an average increase in cost of 10% of computers. However, that inflation should not disputing push buyers to change their behavior

But the PC market also suffers from structural problems that Windows 10 does not really offer any solutions -. Or n ‘ has also been designed to that end. Although the shelves are in downturns, they nonetheless encroached in part on the PC market. Other terminals also are competing with the computer in terms of expenditure (Chromebooks, phablettes, connected objects …).

All is not gloomy

During the two to three years after the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft aims equipped billion of its OS devices. And if the release of Windows 10 will not take off the traditional PC, it could however benefit other configurations and in particular the two-in-one and hybrid computers.

hybrid sales increased in 2015 due to the interest of consumers to these new “form factors”. And to Canalys, “Windows 10 will provide a better user experience when passing over these terminals between tablet and laptop modes.”

“The new operating system will certainly help to help transition to mobility and increase demand for tablets, two-in-one and Windows smartphones in the enterprise, “added Maciek Gornicki IDC.

Windows 10 effect then, but nevertheless very limited. In the first quarter 2015, hybrids accounted for approximately three million units sold worldwide, according to IDC. A drop of water in a PC market evaluated by Gartner for 2015 to just over 300 million units (including Netbooks).
