Windows 10 released on July 29 and will be free – BBC

The update to Winows 10 will be free for PC users equipped with 7 and 8.1 versions of the Microsoft operating system.

After many rumors, the Windows 10 release date is finally known. Microsoft announced that its new operating system will be released on 29 July. Users of 7 and 8.1 versions of Windows, even pirated, can update their computers free to Home and Pro editions of Windows 10 for a year. After this period, they will have to pay

The great novelty of Windows 10 is interoperability. We will find the same applications on smartphones and computers. Claimed by users, the “Start” button is back after disappearing of Windows 8. And Cortana, the voice assistant already available on Windows Phone, will appear on other machines with Windows 10.

Last month, Microsoft unveiled the seven editions that make up Windows 10. If the company promised that its new operating system will be the same on tablets, smartphones and PCs, it continues to offer tailored editions to those to whom Windows is for.

For individuals, this will be the “Home” editions (computers, tablets) and “Mobile”. Windows highlights their synergies: PC players will have access to Xbox Live, the online gaming platform Xbox One and can make games with the console users. And games purchased on Xbox will be available free on PC. As for mobile, they can turn into mini computers when connected to a screen, keyboard and mouse.

Three versions of Windows 10 are intended for professionals. “Pro” is intended for small businesses, “Enterprise” to larger structures. Both editions will have Windows Update for Business, which gives faster access to security updates. Sign of the growing importance of smartphones in companies, they are entitled to their own mobile edition “Mobile Enterprise”. Microsoft also provided an edition dedicated to education and “thinking to adapt to needs of schools,” but does not detail how it will be different. Finally, the edition “Iot Core” will allow Windows to open the connected objects.

The influx of users of Windows 7 and 8 should help Microsoft achieve the ambitious target set by Terry Myerson, vice president of Operating Systems: 1 billion machines with Windows 10 three years after its launch
