Samsung strengthens its position in the home automation by buying SmartThings – France Mobiles

Samsung already had one foot in the home automation with a refrigerator and a bulb connected, but progress in this area of ​​activity does not seem to go fast enough for the manufacturer. Samsung has bought SmartThings, a startup based in Washington DC, specializing in the automation of connected objects.
 

 Samsung is very interested in home automation. In addition to appliances connected, the Korean manufacturer is part of two consortiums (and Open Thread Interconnect Consortium) to develop a standard for connected objects of home automation. However, if the manufacturer can get away with in terms of making connected objects, it is a particular aspect of home automation where he wants to go forward: the automation of connected objects.
 

 This is by buying SmartThings Samsung will get there. This young startup (two years) and provides a hub connected objects to help automate appliances. The coffee machine that automatically triggers the alarm clock or the lights that light up a room when you enter, SmartThings applications are many and Samsung hopes to add this element to its automation products.
 

 The team of the startup, initially based in Washington, will join the headquarters of Samsung Open Innovation Center in Palo Alto, California. It will remain under the leadership of its current CEO, Alex Hawkinson and will continue to develop products, thanks to financial support from Samsung. The Korean manufacturer uses some solutions and products developed by the startup for its own online for home automation objects.
