Intelligence Law: Senate validates the text – ZDNet France

Not surprisingly, the much-criticized text of the Draft Law on Information was approved by the Senate, after a first pass at the Assembly in the month of May. The senators were in favor of the bill, having made many changes to the text voted by MEPs. The senators and muscular control capabilities of CNCTR, the new institution that replaces the CNCIS to verify the legality and legitimacy of the project plays supervised by intelligence law.

CNCTR also have a remedy for three of its members to the Council of State should express its opinion in full committee before any listening environment extended to the initial target.

A stronger supervision, but the Senate did not return on the substance of the text and the different text contentious issues such as the famous “black boxes”, allowing the detection of suspected terrorists by analyzing the traffic among web hosts and ISPs remain.

The vote was attended by 252 votes in favor to the text against 67. Among the opponents may be noted environmentalists senators, whose 10 members voted unanimously in opposition to the text, described by the elected Esther Benbassa ecologist of “Patriot Act to the French. “

The text will now go before the joint committee, composed of deputies and senators, to reach a consensus between the two versions approved by the Houses of Parliament. The meeting will be the last word if no compromise is found, the government has chosen to use the accelerated procedure for this legislation.

The Constitutional Council will then speak on the Bill, before promulgation by the President of the Republic considered this summer.
