Hubble reveals the most distant galaxy ever observed – francetv info

Her nickname is GN-z11. The Hubble Space Telescope was able to capture images of a galaxy 13.4 billion light years from Earth, is the most distant ever observed to date. NASA announced Thursday, March 3.

This galaxy was formed 400 million years after the Big Bang, according to astronomers who made the discovery. To determine when the object appeared in the history of the universe, they use several tools, including the so-called “red shift”.

“the more distant a galaxy is, the more light it emits is stretched and moved to the end of the light spectrum. It is becoming redder. so over its redshift, the more distant the object is “ says Gentside discoveries.

so scientists observe as -z11 was there more than 13 billion years. “We have taken a major step back in time, beyond what we ever thought to do with Hubble,” adds Pascal Oesch, astronomer at Yale University and lead author study revealing the results.

“Knowing Hubble able to spot such a distant galaxy is a surprise,” , comment astronomers in The Astrophysical Journal (in English). They also state that the distant galaxy is 25 times smaller and 100 times lighter than the Milky Way.
