A super-moon of blood in the night from Sunday – Le Figaro

VIDEO – Monday morning, set your alarm earlier than usual: a lunar eclipse starting at 4 coincide with a “super moon”. A show to be particularly beautiful.

As long as the weather like it well, the moon will be spectacular in the night from Sunday to Monday. Rare phenomenon that has not happened since 1982 and will not happen before 2033, a “super moon” will coincide with a total eclipse, visible in the Americas to the Middle East between 4:11 ET 5:23 French time.

The sun, Earth and moon are aligned and it will therefore no longer lit by the sun. She will appear dressed in red: most of the sun’s rays are “absorbed” by the Earth’s atmosphere and therefore does not come up to her, except for red wavelengths that shed light its surface. Provided, however, that the atmosphere is not too loaded particles “If the star is red blood, we will be reassured about the state of the earth atmosphere. If it is very dark or almost invisible is that it is truly catastrophic, “said AFP Pascal Descamps, an astronomer at the Paris Observatory.

This eclipse s’ looks particularly impressive because it will coincide with a “super moon”: our satellite’s orbit is slightly elliptical and not exactly centered on the Earth, and it will arrive at its “perigee”, that is to say the point This orbit closest to Earth (some 360,000 kilometers). The moon will appear to us particularly so big and bright. More often eclipses, this phenomenon occurs four to six times a year

. Note: unlike solar eclipses, those of moon can be observed without special precaution and are safe for our eyes. In France it will however get up particularly early and join an open area, because the moon will be rather low on the horizon.
