Instagram launches two new tools on a background of rivalry with Snapchat – The Echoes

The battle is in full swing between the giants of the Net to try to attract more young people. In order to align with some of the standout features of its competitors, Instagram has unveiled on Monday two new features. The platform of photo sharing to Facebook will now stream live video, how to Periscope or Facebook Live , as well as photos and videos ephemeral to discuss in a private conversation with other users.

The direct is integrated into Stories, a feature of the application that looks exactly like the “stories” Snapchat and that was launched three months ago by Instagram. It allows users to publish content (photos, videos, edited or not, etc) which are automatically erased after 24 hours. For the direct, the delay will be even shorter : as soon as the video retransmission is completed, the file will no longer be accessible. The system varies, therefore, of Facebook Live, which allows you to make accessible the stream after its release.

Subtlety : the images ephemeral conversation private, are made possible by the feature “Live” of the application (messaging). They repeat the concept that has ensured the success of Snapchat in its infancy : the user can send to one or more persons of the contents which, again, self-destruct after a certain time. For Instagram, it is not to become overwhelmed by the competition, while the application of Facebook shows that 500 million active users around the world (and $ 300 million for the e-mail Direct).

According to the polls, Instagram is sharing the favors of adolescents and young adults with Snapchat, which has over 100 million users. And the two applications are aimed, in fine, the same advertising market. According to eMarketer, Instagram could generate 1.86 billion dollars in advertising revenue this year, up from 367 million to Snapchat, which has just filed with the SEC its ipo. It could take place in march.
