Sigfox : a new fundraising record – ZDNet France

New boost for Sigfox. The French company at the origin of a network dedicated to the IoT, announces that it has raised 150 million euros in order to accelerate the expansion of its international network and to achieve a global coverage.

The round table welcomes new investors such as Salesforce, Total, and Henri Seydoux, while the original shareholders, such as Bpifrance, Elliott, Intel Capital, Air Liquide, Idinvest Partners and IXO to reinvest in the business.

“only 5 years ago, Sigfox has built a unique network offering global connectivity, low-cost and low-energy-consuming sensors, objects and equipment connected to it. Thanks to Sigfox, all objects will be connected to the cloud at lower cost, drawing on energy sources in the surrounding area. This promise, coupled with the significant developments made by the company over the last 18 months, has contributed to the success of this new round of financing,” explains the company.

Sigfox claims over 10 million items registered on its network and a presence in 26 countries. This new fundraising will allow the company to expand its network to cover 60 countries by 2018, as well as reaching a financial balance.

Sigfox has, since its birth, the presence of a few guardian angels who ensure its good development. Lately, Samsung has invested 100 million euros in the company. 6 months earlier, Sigfox had already raised 100 million euros. Anne Lauvergeon is the president of the structure since April 2014.

Ludovic Le Moan, the founder of the structure, possess a technology which makes its organization to the shelter of the attempts of the competition. However, we note that companies such as Dell, or even Bouygues Telecom, will launch on this market.

By 2020, Idate estimates that there will be 80 billion “things” connected to $ 12 billion in 2012. The connection networks of the Internet of things, therefore, have beautiful days in front of them.
