Facebook : the Safety check can now be enabled by users – RTL.fr

Facebook has decided to allow the users themselves to create a Safety check, the system put in place by the social network during emergencies, and that allows its users to report their “friends” that they are in a safe place. The Safety check had been triggered during the attacks in Paris on 13 November 2015 or in Brussels during the attacks of march 22, 2016. In total, it was activated 39 times in the world since its inception in 2014.

so that the device enters into force, it will take a number of users have reported a particular incident by using a keyword relating to the nature of the danger in their status. A decision that is not necessarily surprising on the part of Facebook, which had been criticized for not having activated the Safety check at the time of certain events, such as the bombing that occurred in Beirut, Lebanon, on the eve of the terrorist attacks in Paris a year ago.

The social network also intends to provide more information to its users. This was already the case in the fire of Fort McMurray, Canada to help survivors find a roof or access to water points and food, in the spirit of what had taken place spontaneously on the evening of 13 November in Paris with the hashtag #PorteOuverte.
