Snapdragon 835 : Qualcomm formalizes its next chip for smartphone – 01net.com

Five minutes of charging for 5 hours of additional battery. This is the first characteristic official Snapdragon 835. A performance made possible thanks to the new system of quick charge Quick Charge 4. It also promises to recharge half the battery of the smartphones that will use in just 15 minutes, or a speed increased by 20% compared to the Quick Charge 3 current. The rest of the features of the next SoC (System on a Chip) superstar Qualcomm will be unveiled officially at the ces in Las Vegas, January 3, 2017.

It was during the Tech Summit annual, which takes place at this very moment in New York, Qualcomm announced the name of the chip which will take the succession of the Snapdragon 820. This system will likely be the next models of high-end smartphones that come out in 2017, beginning with the american version of the highly anticipated Galaxy S8.

Samsung will take care of burning at a 10-nm

Samsung has, furthermore, been invited to the feast on the stage new york-based Qualcomm, via Ben, the vice-president of the entity processors of the brand in south korea. It has confirmed that it is Samsung who will manufacture in its factories the new Snapdragon 835, etched in 10 nanometres — the Snapdragon 820 used an engraving of 14 nm.

Nothing really surprising however at this announcement. Samsung had already been contracted to manufacture the previous generation of SoC from Qualcomm. Last October, the company announced that it would start soon the mass production of chips etched by 10 nm. This technology will reduce by 30 % the size of the SoC (freeing up space within the smartphone), increase of 27 % in its performance while consuming 40 % less energy.

much Is expected of this new reference platform, which will have to prove, concretely, an increase in performance combined with lower power consumption. The Snapdragon 835 should also be made for the uses of virtual and augmented reality. Last September at the IFA in Berlin, Qualcomm had, in fact, introduced its first helmet of the genre, stating its commitment to be a major player in this booming sector.
