If we finally ended up meeting aliens, they probably do not look like little green men or giant insects. It is more likely that it is not biological creatures but extremely advanced robots with superior intelligence to our in proportions that we can not even imagine.
If very many writers, futurists and philosophers have predicted the development of artificial intelligence and regard for certain, including the famous Stephen Hawking, it’s a threat to humanity, this threat was on earth. But this form of superior intelligence could mainly come from space.
This is the conclusion of a study, “Alien Minds” (The spirit of the aliens which we can see a presentation here) , Susan Schneider, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Connecticut. It should be published soon by NASA. Susan Schneider joins the astronomers as Seth Shostak theories, Director of the NASA Research Center extraterrestrial intelligence, or SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), the astrobiologist, NASA always, Paul Davies, and responsible for Astrobiology at the Library of Congress Stephen Dick. They all consider that a dominant intelligence in the cosmos is probably artificial.
As Susan Schneider explained in MotherBoard: “ Many people have a vision of aliens like an icon. They imagine them as biological creatures, but it did not make sense in the time scale . ” Seth Shostak goes further and says “ have wagered with dozens of astronomers if we receive an extraterrestrial signal, it will be an artificial life … From the moment a civilization invented radio waves, it is and 50 computers and then probably 50 or 100 years to invent artificial intelligence. At that time, soft and spongy brains become an obsolete model . “
“ There is an important distinction when talking about artificial intelligence ,” adds Susan Schneider. “ I’m not saying that we will meet with IBM processors in space. In all likelihood, this intelligence will be far more sophisticated than anything humans include . ”
Susan Schneider believed that human civilization is ailleus close to the stage where it improves its own biology and in gradually freed the man machine. That’s what Ray Kurzweil called singularity. And Susan Schneider, we will not only enhance our brains with technology but gradually become totally synthetic, which does not mean that there will be no original thought, creativity and emotion.
To reach the conclusion that extraterrestrials are very advanced civilizations probably artificial is a fairly simple reasoning from Seth Shostak. “ If we consider that any extraterrestrial radio signal we receive from a civilization at least as advanced as ours. Say, conservatively, that the average civilization uses radio for 10 000 years. From a purely statistical point of view, the chance to meet a much older civilization than ours is very high . “
