Windows 10 – You have a choice: install the OS and now … now! – ZDNet France

Microsoft is serious, but then really, that a maximum of Windows users 7 and 8 install the latest version of its operating system, Windows 10. It must be said that the pace of adoption has clearly slowed the past two months.

To meet its objectives, the editor does not hesitate to cross some yellow lines even force some users to mount version. Microsoft had made amends after this episode. But a new series suggests that the firm declined to jump better.

As reported by The Register, Microsoft displays since last weekend a new notification on the Windows desktop to prompt to migrate to Windows 10. But the pop-up in question is quite misleading and takes the user to think he has no choice but to proceed with the installation.

In this window, Microsoft offers at first only two options: make the update now or later on the same evening. Not really what is called a choice, especially since upgrading to Windows 10 is not any obligation

But as noted by The Register, there is actually a third option: remove the update by clicking on the red cross at the top right of the pop-up. To our colleagues, the publisher takes no more or less the old recipes of pop-up ads.

And these old recipes will certainly not inspire nostalgia to users. Once again, Microsoft therefore is open to criticism. Is it nevertheless necessary? The publisher has already indicated that it would use Windows Update to push Windows 10.

Microsoft has added in its Patch Tuesday, Windows 10 Release for optional day. However, in early 2016, the switch to OS recommended update. Recall that the Windows Update default setting provides downloading and installing critical updates and recommended.

This means that users have preserved this setting automatically receive Windows 10. How to grow the operating system. But Microsoft is reassuring.

“Before the update does not change the OS on your device, you will be asked to choose clear or not to continue” and Terry Myerson says. A priori, therefore, no automated migration to Windows following an update after reboot. Reassured?
