Here is Jimmy, the telepresence robot signed Disney! – Begeek.fr

The research laboratory Disney Research has developed a robot named Jimmy that perfectly reproduces the movements of the user in control. This robot has a hydraulic and precise visual sensor system that allow it to enter the most fragile objects without breaking them.

Jimmy, the prototype robot signed Disney

On very familiar Disney animated films, a little less for its research laboratory reasearch Disney. Still, the company founded in 1923 to explore for many years various fields such as computer graphics, wireless communications, computer vision, robotics or machine learning. With tens of turnover of billion of Disney group, particularly due to the success of Star Wars, Disney Research has developed a new tele-operable robot able to interact with humans.

Jimmy used to move a hydraulic system and has two arms with four degrees of freedom and a head with two degrees of freedom. To control Jimmy, the user must bring a virtual reality helmet to move the robot with cameras that work with servo motors. The robot is able to perform to perfection human gestures and the user is also able to feel the forces exerted by the robot and see the robot’s environment. Jimmy is able to grasp objects with precision and interact smoothly with humans.

Robots in contact with children

These robots could be a real place in our homes, in the video posted on YouTube by Disney Resaerch seen a girl play music and play ball with the robot. For parents being away from their children, the robot would allow them to more easily interact with them, a kind of improved videoconferencing. These robots could also one day find themselves in the parks Disney theme.
