When some mobile phone manufacturers have achieved impressive performance during the year 2014, others have experienced difficult situations like Samsung.
According to figures from Gartner, the mobile world number one lost more than 7 points of market share in a year. Indeed, the South Korean firm has experienced a difficult third quarter of Smartphones side. It thus becomes less effective on the high end. Samsung saw its market share shrinking, going in one year from 32.1% to 24.4%. Sales were hoisted to 73.2 million units against 80.3 million in Q3 2013. According to the same source, the world number one suffered particularly in China, where sales fell by almost 29%.
It must be said that the Galaxy S5 launched this year does not reach the expected results. According to the Wall Street Journal, quoted by The Verge, if the high-end smartphone received a production 20% higher than its predecessor, its sales were 40% below targets, causing too much inventory. Faced with this situation, Samsung has decided to reduce by a quarter to a third the number of smartphones it plans to market in 2015.
In addition, Gartner estimates that 301 million smartphones were sold worldwide in the third quarter, representing an annual growth of 20%. In Western Europe, sales are nevertheless again down 5.2%
