According to the company Arianespace, a Soyuz rocket carrying four satellites O3b family, which aim to provide broadband Internet access for digitally disadvantaged countries took off Thursday from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG).
The four satellites are separated from the Fregat upper stage for nearly two hours and half hours later
This is the first shot of the legendary Russian rocket in French Guiana since the failure of the two satellites was developed by the system Galileo European navigation, on 22 August. This 10th launch of Soyuz from CSG began as scheduled at 15:37 hours Guiana (7:37 p.m. hours from Paris, 18 H 37 GMT). The O3b satellites must be separated by two, the first two about two hours after takeoff and the second 22 minutes later.
With three billion people in the world who do not yet enjoy broadband Internet, the four new O3b satellites weighing 700 kg each were designed by Thales Alenia Space. They will be arranged around 8 000 km, an equatorial orbit where they will join the first eight satellites in the constellation.
With this new launch, the O3b constellation is fully deployed and fully operational
It aims to provide access to broadband Internet for emerging markets at low cost in Asia, Africa, Latin America , Australia and the Middle East, nearly 180 countries. The first eight satellites were launched by four Soyuz rockets 25 June 2013 and 10 July 2014. As anticipated earlier this year, Arianespace set a new record for annual operations since the introduction of its full range of launchers, a total of 11 launches in 2014.
This impressive performance was made possible thanks to the tireless effort of Arianespace teams and partners at the Guiana Space Centre to reduce the time between assignments and optimize the preparation launches
