Rollover closely Tuesday by the New Horizons probe, Pluto reveals today its mountains ice plains, peaks eroded areas and paths that seem to form strange borders. While scientists thought Pluto was hitherto fixed, these new pictures reveal frozen but active planet.
A PLANET “ALIVE”
Proofs geological activity on Pluto accumulate. Thus, the presence of high mountains without craters tend to prove that this is not that of an atmospheric process or icy winds, but it also exists an internal process with forces that can erect similar mountains those of the Rockies. The absence of craters would show that they are young and that areas geological activity continues. Which is a surprise to experts who believed that the heat of the planet were gone there for billions of years.
IN THE GEYSERS ACVTIVITE?
These new images were taken in the area of the southern part of the “Region Tombaugh” heart shaped and named Plaine Sputnik, after the first artificial satellite sent by the USSR. In addition to these peaks and these ice plains, the most surprising is the detection of streaks of material which seem to spring from blackheads. Although the NASA team is not yet ready to declare, other scientists found that these streaks resemble the discovered geysers on Triton, moon of Neptune, in 1989.
PENDING MORE …
We must of course be careful with these first deductions. Nasa has yet that 1-2% of all collected data. The next conference is scheduled for 24 July, but it will take 16 months to get all the information recorded by New Horizons.
