The tooth of an old adult individual of 550,000 years was discovered in Tautavel Thursday, July 23, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Considered “major discovery” , this tooth has 100,000 years older than the famous Tautavel Man, previously considered as “the oldest French” . Apart from the Mauer mandible, discovered in 1907 in Germany and dated around 600,000 years, very few human fossils are known in Europe for this period.
