If you still doubt that Pluto is a planet alive, that’s what settle the debate. A new picture taken by the US probe New Horizons during its flyby of the dwarf planet on July 14 was recovered this week, posting an impressive contrast between the very dark area and covered with craters, and a much clearer and flat region .

This “yin and yang” is located just west of Tombaugh Regio, this amazingly smooth area in the shape of heart. Pile on the border, in fact, with this big black area initially called “whales” but now decked dark Cthulhu name, the name of the monstrous entity of HP Lovecraft novels.

And the border is the perfect illustration of the mystery which surprised the community of planetary scientists: why Pluto is not she inert as expected? Too old for the heat from its formation has been preserved, too small for the tidal force warms, it should no longer have any geological activity long ago. Yet the absence of craters in large areas seems to be evidence of such activity. Not to mention these mountains.

And yet, all black yin this photo taken by New Horizons old as specialists billion years is the direct neighbor of the very yang smooth, which can have more than 100 million years. Better: the two areas seem to interact, as suggested those dark craters seem to “fill” white

How to explain this recent geological activity or current.? The many data New Horizons will continue to send a trickle over the next six months may help to answer this intriguing question.
