Physics: Possible major announcement Thursday on the observation of gravitational waves – Europe1

Scientists teams looking to detect gravitational waves, which Einstein predicted the existence in his theory of general relativity, could announce Thursday in Washington a major discovery.

Confirmation rumors . According to a statement Monday from the US National Science Foundation (NSF), scientists from Caltech (California Institute of Technology), MIT and Ligo (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory) will “take stock of the research efforts detect gravitational waves using Ligo “at a press conference. This announcement fuel the rumors circulating for several weeks in the scientific community on the Internet whereby Ligo of the teams have detected these waves well.

According to these rumors recently reported by Sciencemag.org is observing the collision of two black holes merge and that those comments have been made. Sciencemag cites a tweet that scientists have seen the study describing the discovery of Ligo.

As round the water surface . Gravitational waves are produced by small disruptions in space-time due to the movement of a large mass of object, like a planet. The theory put forward by Albert Einstein in his theory of general relativity could be likened to round that form in the water when we cast a stone.

The ability to observe gravitational waves which are very low on a microscopic scale, open a new window on yet mysterious astronomical phenomena such as gravitational collapse of massive stars, the merger of two neutron stars as well as phenomena associated with black holes found often at the center of galaxies.
