Samsung Galaxy S7: disassembly, but no watercooling – Frandroid

The Russian site Mail managed to get their hands and remove the all new Galaxy Samsung S7. The opportunity to discover the bowels of the beast, but also to see that the watercooling is conspicuously absent, leaving instead a heat pipe system.

Samsung Galaxy S7 IP68

The site Russian Mail has managed what seemed impossible up: get your hands on a Galaxy S7 the day after his official announcement, and completely reverse engineer using a screwdriver. Disassembly is not as artistic as what we typically prepare Americans to iFixit, but the Russians were able to be pragmatic. Their removal can reveal some very interesting information, starting with the cooling system of the SoC, the Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820.

Water in the Galaxy S7?

This morning, many sites were the echo of the presence of a liquid cooling system ( watercooling ) in the Galaxy Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. However, Samsung has not mentioned at the press conference and instead describes the operation of a heat pipe so that the press release contains only the term “ internal cooling system ‘meaning internal cooling system. The Korean giant’s website, there are many pictures of the Galaxy S7 in the water, but that’s to advertise its IP68 certification that allows it to be immersed in water. Disassembly of the Galaxy S7 by the Russian website Mail.ru confirms the information no, the Galaxy S7 does not have a watercooling type liquid cooling system

.

a heat pipe, but no watercooling

as you can see from the photo, the Galaxy S7, and surely as its big brother the Galaxy S7 edge, incorporates a heat pipe ( heat pipe ) . In fact, it is a copper tube in which there is a fluid. It turns into a gas and then under the influence of heat emitted by the SoC and circulates within the heat pipe, to come to cool to the other end. Precisely at this end, the heat pipe makes contact with the metal frame of the Galaxy S7, which therefore has the effect to warm it, and therefore create a heat transfer from the SoC to the chassis, through the heat pipe .

Galaxy S7 heat pipe

the liquid cooling system would have been impossible to integrate into the Galaxy S7 due to the thinness of the product, since it takes a pump to circulate the water in the system. But Fujitsu has in its cartons a solution that could resemble it: it is a heat pipe, but in a closed circuit with a steam room

A modem Shannon 935

the disassembly also makes it possible to learn more about the chips used in the Galaxy S7. The 4G modem 12/13 category and is a 935 Shannon , a home design at Samsung and there is a DAV Avago AFEM-9030. Would that it works in conjunction with Lucky audio chip?
