Gear FIT2: grip the new Samsung strap for sports – 01net.com

Two years after the seductive Gear Fit, Samsung announced its successor. Logically, it is called Gear FIT2 and brings some notable improvements. The main one is the arrival of a GPS chip, allowing riders to move from their smartphone before going out in the forest. Despite this additional functionality, the South Korean keeps the same initial price of 199 euros. A more aggressive rate than those of its competitors such as Garmin or Fitbit Surge Vivosmart HR +.
We were able to spend some time with the bracelet, available in three colors, the marketing of which is scheduled for 10 June.

01net.com – three variations of FIT2 Gear

After a few seconds spent to attach the wrist – a hand to take, one quickly forgets the Gear FIT2. Very light (it weighs only 30 grams), it well matches the shape of the wrist and proves particularly comfortable. But his bright AMOLED 1.53 inch reminds us that it is definitely there. A display that slightly gaining definition through to 432 x 216 points, a high-resolution 315 dots per inch. What offer one of the most comfortable screens the market.

Between the watch and bracelet connected

For the rest, the device operates with a Exynos processor at 1 GHz, 512 MB RAM and 2 GB of storage for music. If the battery of 200 mAh seems a bit light, Samsung promises up to four days of autonomy in everyday use. Energy efficiency that must largely AMOLED screen that lets off pixels when displaying black. The Gear FIT2 only takes a few hours when GPS location is turned on, especially if you decide to listen to music. An autonomy which will be defined more precisely in our full review. The bracelet can also connect to Wi-Fi.

Once again, Samsung trusted the Tizen operating system to run its connected bracelet. The hybrid nature of the subject arises. Unlike the Fitbit Blaze, you can receive notifications of any application. For some – like WhatsApp Messenger or we respond to messages using predefined phrases. The Gear FIT2 is not equipped micro, we can not go further. The answer by touch keyboard is not contemplated by the brand. A rather logical choice given the shape of the screen.

On the right spine, there are two buttons. Above, the Home button. Below, the return button. Move from a menu to another is rather intuitive, even if the movements allowed are many – swipe down, left or right. It will take a few minutes to familiarize themselves fully with this tracker.
We were able to run for 50 minutes on the mat with wrist strap. Even moving the Gear FIT2 screen offers excellent reading comfort.

A heartbeat sensor a bit finicky

Despite the perspiration, it remains reactive when you want quickly switch from one menu to another. However, heart rate sensor has seemed a bit hesitant. When active the screen, you are entitled to yoyo seconds before displaying the exact pace – by comparison with measures taken on the running machine or through the Galaxy S7 sensor.

160 beats per minute, the Gear FIT2 was first displayed in 130, before rising to 170 and then stabilize at around 158. Note that it was a draft version product and that this defect could be corrected on the commercial version. Again, it will take our test to have the heart net.

01net.com – the bracelet can cope with sweat

During the effort, it is possible to change the mode to “Do not disturb” to cut most of the notifications. One option that is always appreciated on a bracelet like this. Like the Samsung Galaxy S7, the Gear FIT2 is IP68 certified. So you can sweat and showering with no questions question. Recall that’re better avoid diving into the sea or in a pool (salted / chlorinated water may damaging it) – it will be all unnecessary ways, it does not support swimming sessions

While not breaking with the first model, the Samsung Gear FIT2 offers hardware and software offer very attractive for the price. The display, lightness and integration of the GPS chip is the major strengths of the bracelet. But several issues remain to be clarified. The relevance of the heart rate sensor, autonomy and good compatibility with Android devices will be scrutinized closely.

The autonomous without wireless headphones

They will make coach office audio and measure heart rate. announced with 6 hours of battery life, they can be charged in their box which dock office.
IconX come out during the month of July and will be sold 229 euros.
