Windows 10: Update Anniversary finally scheduled for August 2 [SHIFT] – ZDNet France

Article updated at 14h: Microsoft has confirmed that the launch of Redstone will speak well and truly on Tuesday 2 August. Redmond also states that this update will be dedicated to 350 million today equipped machines. The publisher and communicates on a new figure was 300 million in May. The group aims 1 billion Windows devices by the end of next year.

Small blunder towards Microsoft? On Tuesday, some could see a curious blog post from Microsoft since it contained no text but a title that has reacted: “Microsoft announced the availability of the anniversary update Windows 10 to August 2″ .

Remember that this first major update of the OS, also known as the Redstone code name, is supposed to be thrust on July 29, one year after the official launch of Windows 10. This date appears in the slides of the publisher for the conference WinHEC (Windows Hardware Engineering conference).

the ticket has obviously been removed but for observers, date of August 2 has meaning because it falls on a Tuesday . But Redmond traditionally grows its updates, including its security patches, always a Tuesday

The update Anniversary Update will also be deployed at another major event. The end of free Windows 10. After July 29, Microsoft provides in principle to make this edition of Windows fee ($ 119 for the Home version and 199 for the Pro).

Remember that Redstone should highlight the Continuum function. With this feature inspired by Continuity present in the latest Apple OS X, Microsoft’s ambition is to offer an operating system that suits all terminals.

“With Continuum phones, we believe that any phone can be your PC” explains Joe Belfiore Microsoft. How? Because this feature allows Windows 10 to detect the type of device used and help the OS to configure itself to provide the most suitable interface. The idea is thus to start a task on a screen and continue on another, transparently to the user.

Redstone also introduce the Ubuntu shell commands, allow the extensions support for Edge, will offer a redesigned Start menu, the universal application Skype, Windows Ink for pens and an assistant Cortana more powerful. The Enterprise version should land more security options with Windows 10 Defender Advanced Protection.

Windows Mobile side 10, Redstone should provide support for biometrics fingerprint. For this, use Windows 10 Mobile drivers and existing code already available for Windows PC Hello. This version supports Windows 10 in fact already the fingerprint readers. This new mobile OS on there means the arrival of smartphones such readers

The builders have really two options: integration directly in the terminal, or support this biometric authentication mode via an external device.

As for the update Redstone 2, it would ultimately be programmed to 2017, according to sources interviewed by ZDNet.com.
