Intestinal bacteria appeared before man – Le Parisien

N ur gut flora would consist of old bacteria at least fifteen million years. A period that precedes the appearance of man. This is what reveals a study just published by the US journal “Science”. To achieve this discovery, the University of California scientists at Berkeley analyzed samples of wild monkeys of Africa and people in the United States, through genetic sequencing. “Some human intestinal bacteria directly descended from those who lived in the bowels of our common ancestors with monkeys,” said Andrew Moeller, a co-author of the study. According to him, “this proves that there is an unbroken lineage of these bacteria for millions of years, since the emergence of African apes.”

The researchers also showed a different evolution of these bacteria, when the common ancestors began to transform into different species. They date to the first cleavage about 15.6 million years ago, when the line of gorillas diverged from that of other hominids.
