Telegram is recognized as a messaging when discretion is required, the exchange between users is encrypted in effect, it is potentially possible to intercept. It would be especially popular among terrorists but also politicians. The application is now victim of a flaw that would allow easy access to the messages exchanged in its version for Mac.
The Telegram mail not so secure it on Mac
Kirill Firsov, a Russian security researcher, has discovered a flaw in Telegram, on the Mac version of the messaging. He realized that all the messages copied to the clipboard and then pasted into the chat room messaging were recorded in the system log (syslog). Last week, researchers had therefore contacted the co-creator of the mail, Pavel Durovvia, via his Twitter account, to give an account of its discovery to represent her a critical flaw.
It ‘ was not the opinion of Mr. Durovvia and, after an exchange of messages on the social network between the two men, the fault was repaired. According to co-founder Telegram this flaw was rather benign, indeed it only concerned that messages pasted from the clipboard. But all applications have access to the clipboard, something that has since been corrected. “ Imagine that the police seize your laptop and it found traces of your messages ‘secrets’ in syslog ” and ended the discussion the Russian researcher.
A popular application among terrorists
through his conversations encryption features, Telegram is an app that would be popular among terrorists. The exchanges can be done discreetly, the Islamic State also recommend its use according to the daily “Le Monde”.
In this regard, the authorities discovered a video and messages left by the killers of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, Nabil Abdel-Malik Petitjean and Adel Kermiche on messaging. Telegram was closed earlier this year nearly 80 accounts belonging to EI or its sympathizers.
