The plane Solar Impulse 2 has completed a successful tour of world history – Le Parisien

L aircraft Solar Impulse 2 (SI2) cordoned off Tuesday a tour of the historical world flying day and night on solar energy and without a drop of fuel, a feat may open up new technological perspectives.
the aircraft landed safely at 4:05 (0:05 GMT) in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, where he had gone 9 March 2015 for a journey of 23 days flight numbers and 43,041 kilometers across four continents.
“the future is clean,” he told his Swiss pilot Bertrand Piccard, the applause after the 17th and last stage of a journey to promote renewable energy.
he was immediately joined by his compatriot André Borschberg, with whom he had relayed the controls of the car.
latter entered the aviation legend driving SI2 for its step above the Pacific ocean, is 8,924 km in less than 5 days and 5 nights, the longest flight ever made solo.
“it’s so exciting” to fly aboard a plane that makes “no noise” and create “pollution,” said Bertrand Piccard arriving reporters.
“it is believed that this is the science- fiction but it is in fact the reality of today, “said the driver.
Weighing a ton and a half but as wide as a Boeing 747, SI2 flew at an average speed of about 80 km / h thanks to batteries that store solar energy captured by some 17,000 solar cells on its wings.
– Airbus and NASA –
If he assured that he would wait to see passengers on solar aircraft, Bertrand Piccard has predicted that there would “very soon” in “electric aircraft to be recharged to the ground.”
like his compatriot, Mr. Borschberg said the solar airplane opened the way for new technologies such as electric propulsion and solar drones.
“as we have found a way to store electrical energy, electric propulsion will gradually become the norm and I am glad to see that large companies such as Airbus and NASA began working “on the subject, he said on his blog.
two pioneers now intend to develop solar and drones writing a book, according to Swiss agency ATS
and according to Mr. Borschberg, the plane will continue to conduct demonstration flights around the world to spread his message. “can be used for clean energy, not just for aviation but also on the ground. “Mr.
Piccard himself has proposed the creation of an international committee of clean technologies to “advise governments” and “fight against climate change”.
In Zurich, the Swiss food giant Nestlé has announced plans to capitalize about his experience with both drivers to apply to nutrition for the elderly. as many great Swiss groups Nestle was among SI2 partners, which he had joined in providing food to drivers .
-New ère-
at a press conference in Abu Dhabi which was attended among Emirati and Swiss officials, Prince Albert of Monaco has welcomed a “historic day”. “This is not the end of a journey but only the beginning” of a new era, said that that was one of the sponsors of the expedition.
Monday evening, the Secretary General of the Ban Ki-moon expressed his “profound admiration” for this experience, addressing Mr. Piccard flight.
Party of Abu Dhabi, the aircraft landed successively Muscat ( Oman), Ahmedabad and Varanasi (India), Mandalay (Burma), Chongqing and Nanjing (China) and Nagoya (Japan) and Hawaii (USA), where he made an unscheduled pitstop several months before reaching and across north America, stopping in San Francisco, Phoenix, Tulsa, Dayton, Lehigh Valley and New York.
Then he crossed the Atlantic non-stop to land on 23 June in Seville in southern Spain, where he rallied July 13 Cairo.
the two Swiss have led in turn to a cockpit 3.8 m2 without air conditioning or heating, but equipped oxygen cylinders to allow drivers to breathe and a corner toilet.
the cabin is covered with an insulating foam to mitigate the extreme temperatures in flight, between +40 and -40 degrees Celsius.
a situation that made André Borschberg say that it was “more human than technical challenge”.
