Nokia confirms its return to smartphones as early as next year – ZDNet France

so It is official, Nokia is going to make its return in the smartphone market in 2017, its first models expected to be unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February. A little reminder for those who have missed an episode : the manufacturer has first been sold to Microsoft, but retained its rights in the mark mobile. These rights were then assigned on an exclusive basis to HMD Global, a company created by former executives of the Finnish.

Not despise them therefore : this new Nokia has nothing to do with the former. If HMD Global will be able to rely on the brand to develop the terminals, these will be manufactured by a third party, in this case, the chinese Foxconn, just like TCL, which operates the brand Alcatel OneTouch. They will be led by Android and not Windows Phone in great loss of speed.

“We want to be one of the main competitors of the smartphone market,” said to Reuters the ceo of HMD, Arto Nummela, who has long worked within Nokia, in the sale and development of products.

tough Challenge as the Android market is now crowded. The legendary brand will therefore have to strike a great blow to differentiate themselves in a Android market, where only two or three actors are emerging. So far, what is happening is not really reassuring.

The name Nokia is still attractive but if we believe the rumors, the first terminal being proposed seem to be quite conventional. Two models could be unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. They would be equipped with AMOLED screens of 5.2 and 5.5 inches QHD and driven by a Snapdragon 820.
