“Fake news” – Facebook and Google are teaming up with the press to track down the intox – ZDNet France

Google and Facebook seem determined to heal their image and to give guarantees to the policies. The firm of Mountain View has announced to participate in CrossCheck, a collaborative platform designed to help users to check information (article, picture, video or comment).

the veracity of The information reported by the users is established through the participation of the editors of 16 French media, including AFP, France Télévisions and The World. It should be noted that Facebook also supports this initiative.

The social network also announces in a press release the launch of its tool of fact-checking in France in a few weeks. And the site plans to use its members.

“Everyone can make a report by clicking on the right corner of a publication. Thanks to this report, the users will contribute to the detection of false information,” says Facebook. The analysis of the reported contents will rely on third parties, members of the press.

No money for the fake news

But reporting will not be worth removing the social network, however. Information will be qualified as false as soon as two organizations committed identify it as such. “This publication will then display a pictogram and indicate that the information is disputed.”


“When a user will consider sharing a publication identified as not reliable, a warning” disputed by others ” will be displayed. Moreover, the visibility of these publications may be reduced in the news feed of users,” adds Facebook.

Spread of false information, however, is not an end in itself. The business is indeed lucrative. The social network promises to tackle the perpetrators of these disinformation to the wallet by limiting their financial gains.
