Who does not have a smartphone? More than one in two French has one – Linformatique.org

58% of the French population is now equipped with a smartphone, more than one in two French. The increase is important because the adoption rate has doubled in three years.

As evidenced by the figures for the annual ARCEP and Economy Council General investigation, digital mobility seduced more and more French. They are now 58% to be equipped with a smartphone. If this rate is impressive, most impressive is that it has doubled in just three years.

Although obviously the equipment rate varies by age groups. It is 90% for the “18-24″ and only 15% for the “70 and over”. “There is still a reluctance in the older population tranche leap in terms of technology equipment. This is especially true when these people live alone, “notes Martine Lombard, member of ARCEP

The mobile equipment exceeds that fixed. A first

While digital mobility deceive more and more French, there remains still some diehards. They are still 8% to not owning a mobile phone, against 11% last year.

But it is also important to note is that for the first time in the history of telecommunications, mobile equipment exceeds that fixed. The rate is 92% and 89% respectively.

data consumption follows the trend

In parallel with the adoption of smartphones, François also adopt mobile Internet. The average consumption of data 3G / 4G has now almost doubled to 1.1 GB.

This change obviously helps to increase the proportion of Internet users in France. It is now 84% of the population who declares to connect to internet. While the number of home internet access is cup (from 81% to 83% in one year), high-speed broadband progresses from 9% to 14%. By cons, with only 4% of home connections, fiber optics still difficult to really take off.
