You will continue to complain about the battery of your iPhone – Slate.fr

When he introduced the new iPhone, Tuesday, Sept. 9, Apple’s vice president of marketing, Phil Schiller, said:

“A big screen, a larger model, incredible performances: of course, all of this has an impact on battery life. Well, I’m really happy because our team has worked hard to make the iPhone 6 and 6 have more autonomy at least equal if not better, the iPhone 5S on all criteria. “

At least he admits that a greedy energy screen, a faster processor and a secondary processor can easily lead to a horrible battery life. But “at least equal or better” is not very encouraging. Almost every time, Apple has a comparison chart to show the autonomy it believes that its instruments are covered.

Unfortunately, the company is either overly optimistic or … determined to sell us something, because his numbers are almost always too high.

For example, the chart above says that we can watch 11 hours of video at a time on the iPhone 6, against 10 for the 5S. Good news

But first, 5S could not actually support the 10-hour shifts. Some studies have evaluated its autonomy, in this situation, a little over 5 hours. Others spoke of 8:00. In both cases, it is below 10, and in a situation where it needs to be recharged during the day. Which leads me to think that the extra hour of autonomy talks for Apple iPhone 6 will result ultimately in no significant improvement for the user.

Another thing to keep in mind when you take a look at the impressive tests of Apple is that they are not based on what you actually do with your phone. Is that from the stand, watching videos to your iPhone you coward? No. Do you listen to music for more than two days without stopping? No. And you do not talk on the phone all day or not surf the Internet continuously either.

Of course, these tests are trying to rely on different extremes to give us an overview of the how would the battery. But since we all use our phones for multiple uses for one day, not one of them, it would be useful to create a catch-all category where there would be some push notifications, downloads simultaneous, geolocation and web browsing intermittently-but it would probably be too honest for a product presentation.

You can invest a little more hope in the iPhone 6 Plus, given it is so great and that Apple believes it will do much better in most of its tests (14 hours talk time on 3G for 6 against 24 hours for 6 more, for example). But who knows!

I bought an iPhone 5S last year and I was terribly disappointed by its autonomy. I recently replaced under warranty for another problem, and continues to be depressed by the autonomy of the new. And for now, there is no guarantee that the iPhone 6 or 6S will do better.

Given that Apple is trying to improve on every level in every generation of every product it means clear that autonomy has not been considered a priority for iPhones. And since it is a key parameter for their operation, it’s really shameful.
