The MOM Indian probe sends first images from Mars – 2 Photos
The Indian space agency ISRO has made the first images of Mars acquired by its probe MOM (Mars Orbiter Mission) service. Admittedly, these are not the finest shots that NASA and the European Space Agency accustom us for several years, but for India venturing for the first time around March is a great achievement.
This mission, which cost only $ 74 million (compared with $ 671 million of Maven), gives an idea of the skills acquired by the nation in the field Space Technology. In other words, space progress of India and the phase of technological catch-up continues.

After a launch, November 5, 2013, aboard a PSLV and leaving Earth a month later, on 5 December 2013, the MOM probe ( Maangalyaan in Sanskrit) came around Mars Sept. 24, 2014, days after the orbiter Maven NASA.
After a series of maneuvers orbit insertion, the spacecraft orbits Mars on a highly elliptical orbit inclined 150 degrees relative to the equatorial plane of Mars. With a perigee of 421.7 km altitude and apogee (farthest point) of 76,993.6 km, the probe makes a full rotation in a 72 hours 51 minutes and 51 seconds.
