As of this morning, the manager of passwords 1Password [4.5.3 - French - FREE - iPhone / iPad - iOS. 7 - AgileBits Inc] is available in the App Store. This is the first time that this excellent application is free, it is usually sold around 16 €, and it apparently surprised his editor.
In several tweets, Agile Bits suggests that it was not intended and that is part of the vagaries of the App Store with the approach of a new version of iOS – there indeed now full of small malfunction, such as updates that are offered several times.
The publisher has also told the website MacUser that this promotion was no sound and that the App Store has proposed random free.
In fact, a change in the economic model could be the explanation for this gratuity. For several minutes, the record of the application indicates that it contains built-purchases, which was not the case before. They paid 1Password relatively expensive, but then we had access to all functions.
But it turns out that the new Android version released this summer adopted the freemium model. It can be downloaded for free, but the “premium” features are priced. ll have to pay about € 6 in-app purchase to unlock the following features:
- Add new elements such as identifiers, secure notes, identities right from your Android device
- Generate words unique complex passwords for each site with our generator password
- Mark your frequently used as Favorites for easy access
- Organize items in your items Records
- Customize your items to save everything you need
If you believe the record of the application in the App Store, the ‘iOS app goes to this model: Free to download with in-apps purchases. We do not know yet what features will be unlocked via integrated purchasing and what will happen to existing customers.
Agile Bits assured that the update for iOS 8 would be free for those who already have the app, but all functions are included? Will he pay a few dollars more to be able to use the app with Touch ID? Asked what can change in pricing, the publisher has not yet told us (we will update the article if it does).
