75% of French households are exposed to a cyber attack – L’Expansion

Securing your wifi is not yet a reflex. Nearly three in four French households do not adequately protect their domestic wireless terminal according to a study by the antivirus software company Avast Software Thursday, December 4.

The French and 10% said not to use a password to protect the wireless network and 24% to use the password “address, name, phone number, the name of their street or other words are easy to guess. ”

5% of the terminals are accessible from the outside

In addition, more than half of the routers are “poorly secure by default”, with combinations of access codes “too obvious, such as ‘admin / admin’ or ‘admin / password’,” says the editor.

It amounts to 5% the number of French wireless terminals “accessible from the outside” the home. A similar proportion of respondents also admitted having used the network of one of their neighbors without his knowledge.

42% of French feel well protect

The lack of security makes routers “very easy access entry points for hackers, which are therefore able to hijack millions of home networks in France, “said Vince Steckler, CEO of Avast, during a press briefing.

A French five reported having had a hacking, and 34% fear a theft of personal information or bank and financial data. However, 42% believe their home network is safe enough.
